Greening Your Family

Posted by Stacey Stultz on Aug.20, 2008

From an environmentalist standpoint, “Go Green” to protect our wonderful earth. From a mother’s standpoint, “Go Green” to protect our wonderful children. A toxic environment can only hurt our children, and children are our future. A green body is a clean body.  Here are a few suggestions to Green your Family.

Buy Organic
Organic crops are grown using farming practices such as integrated pest management, green manure and crop rotation. These sustainable practices reduce the use of toxic pesticides and herbicides. This means less toxic chemicals to contaminate our soil, water supplies and bodies. It takes approximately 1/3 lbs of toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers to produce one conventional t-shirt… and then we wear it!

Eat a More Plant-Based Diet for the Environment
Right now there is a pretty compelling case for eating less meat to reduce your carbon footprint.  The thought goes like this: less beef, less methane gas from cattle.  Also, plant-based foods use fewer resources than do animal-based foods to produce.

Or, Eat Only Organic Animal Products
Organic dairy, eggs, poultry and meat products come from farm animals that were given organic feed,   treated humanely and received preventative health measurements for happy stress free farm animals that are more productive.

Green Clean
Cleaner cleaners are good for the environment and your children. Toxic cleaning solutions eventually go down the drain or end up in your body. Clean like your great-grandparents for a less toxic home, environment, and body.
