Favorite Vegetables and Fruit Juice Combinations

Posted by Eleni Prokopeas on Dec.14, 2008

Making fresh juice a few times a day is labor intensive but well worth the time and effort.  I make 3 per day for my family and I could see and feel the difference it has made.  Just to name a few, more energy, nutritional benefits and weight loss.  Here are a few simple recipes to get you started:

Carrot Juice… for its carotenoids and flavonoids
Carrot and Beet Root Tops Juice… for detoxing
Carrot and Green Apple…for immune boosting vitamins A and C with potassium
Orange and Carrot Juice… for immune boosting vitamins
Cucumber Juice…as a diuretic
Green Juice…a mix of all types of green veggies
Kale, Cucumber, Lemon and Ginger…calming, clarity and mineralizing
(also try putting spirulina or blue green algae in the drink)
Orange Juice
Grapefruit Juice
Grape Juice
Apple Juice

You will often come across mixed opinions on what should and shouldn’t be juiced. Do your research and most importantly, listen to your body, it knows what it needs and likes. Always remember to wash well with filtered water, buy local…organic is best, and buy fresh produce for your best nutritional benefits.

Here are a few rules by Dr Gerson on juicing…

*Gerson recommends no BEETS, too much sugar, however small inner beet root tops are OK
*No juiced celery; gives you a huge concentration of salt
*No juicing spinach; it contains too much oxalic acid
*Do not add any water to the juice, it’s not needed
*No Alfalfa or any other sprouts! The reason for this is that alfalfa seeds and sprouts are very rich in the amino acid L-canavanine. This can be very toxic when taken in quantity! Since we juice to get nutrients in quantity stay away from juicing sprouts.

My ultimate favorite Juice recipes are from the Gerson Institute, all freshly Prepared:
The main reason is because of the incredible health benefits each glass of juice offers.

Carrot Apple:
3 Carrots (6 oz), 1 large Green Apple (6 oz), makes an 8 oz. juice

Green Leaf Juice:
½ bunch Romaine Lettuce
1 leaf Swiss Chard
4 leaves Beet Tops (young inner leaves)
4 leaves Watercress
2 leaves Red Cabbage
¼  Green Pepper
¼ bunch Endive
¼ bunch Escarole
1 medium green apple

If you have a favorite book or recipe, please share with other GreenDivaMom’s and we will post it in the Juice section.
Happy Juicing

It’s because of this experience and passion she created greendivamom.com.
