Under-the-Counter Installation Overview

Posted by Stacey Stultz on Dec.14, 2008

Reverse Osmosis Installation Some Green Diva Moms are familiar with plumbing and power tools. For the rest of us, we will need a licensed professional to properly install our under the counter water system. This is a basic overview of a reverse osmosis water system installation.

Basic components are:

*reservoir water tank- holds filtered water

*manifold unit with a pre-filter, carbon post filter and reverse osmosis membrane filter

*air-gap faucet

*water tubes

General Installation Steps:

Step 1. The water system will be connected to your cold water line. The cold water line valve will need to be closed before beginning installation.

Step 2. Depending on location, the water feed adapter will be installed at the faucet connector or the cold water angle stop valve.

Step 3. The drain saddle assembly will be installed onto the drain pipe.

Step 4. Depending upon your sink, a hole may need to be drilled to accommodate the faucet assembly.

Step 5. Next, the faucet and its tubing will be installed.

Step 6. Then, the manifold unit with water filters and the water tank are installed.

Step 7. All tubing will then be securely connected.

Step 8. Open cold water line valve and activate/flush the system according to manufacturer’s directions. It will take the better part of a day (about 9 hours) to activate/flush the system since the tank on reverse osmosis systems will need to be properly sanitized.

Step 9. Make sure that you keep a record of when the filters need replacing. We tape a small note on the side of the filter for quick reference.

Enjoy your clean, healthy water! Remember to carry a water bottle with your filtered water around with you!
