Eco-Friendly Gadgets Engage Older Kids in the Green Lifestyle

It isn’t always easy to get older kids (and even husbands) interested in going green, but by appealing to their inner gadget geek, it is possible to sneak some green into their lives where they least expect it. These green gadgets should do the trick:
Kill A Watt™ — This hand-held device connects to your appliances and measures their power usage by the Kilowatt hour, just like the power company will. Play your cards right, and older kids won’t even realize that while they are happily measuring your appliances, they are also helping you figure out which appliances are draining energy and money out of your home. Be careful! It may not sound like it now, but usage of the Kill A Watt™ can become addictive. Pair this with the Wattson™, which plugs directly into your electric meter and glows an angry red color if you are using too much electricity.
Alternative Powered Cell Phone Chargers – With these new cell phone chargers, kids won’t have to head for an outlet every time their cell phone battery runs low. Sidewinder’s wind-up cell phone charger does exactly what it sounds like, allowing your child to wind a handle and create a few minutes of cell phone power. If you’re looking for a less labor-intensive alternative, Strapya’s solar-powered cell phone charger attaches to the phone like a charm and only has to soak up a few hours of sunlight to work as a backup power source.
EcoStapler™ – This stapler will affix up to three pieces of paper together without using a single staple. Pair it with this water powered calculator and give your kids a green school experience.
The greatest thing about green technology is that there are new gadgets coming out every day. With a little strategic enticement, soon it will be your kids coming to you with the latest green gadget news!
