Important Green Websites to Visit

There are some really informative, educational and entertaining green websites. Here are some diverse and important green websites you may want to check out.

1. Organic Consumers Association

This site has so much information available online or you can request email alerts and you will be up to date on all your organic news. You can read the news nationally or search by your state and see what is going on near you. This website will keep you informed about important issues you may want to support.

2. Environmental Working Group

This website has so much news, information and you can also check the safety of any personal care product. The EWG does extensive tests on personal care products and then rates them for you. The EWG also tests fruits and veggies to see what ones have the least and most pesticides. They have a list you can print off, cut out and take to the store next time of the cleanest and dirtiest produce.

3. Local Harvest

This website will help you search for local organic foods in farmers’ markets, stores, family farms and more. You can click on the map provided or enter in your zip or city and state to find local organic food near you. And don’t think just because it is autumn you won’t find a lot, because you will. They also have a store catalog where you can order healthy foods and all kinds of other products.

4. Earth911

This website has great articles and a search engine on the home screen for recycling centers near you. It also has a section that says, “Get Local,” where you can type in your zip code or you can click on, “not in the United States?” for another search.

5. Grist

Grist gives you eco-news in an interesting and entertaining way. There are articles on issues like: politics, climate & Energy, Food, Business, Living Green Placemaking and more. With Grist you don’t feel bogged down with heavy information and depressed - important information is given in a conversational tone that can be digested by all.

6. Breathingearth.net

On this website you can place your mouse on any country in the world to see all kinds of details like population: 1 person is born and dies every …, C02 emitted by each person, gives all kinds of CO2 details for each country, live birth and death rates since you started watching and the world population. You can also find out your carbon foot print, join world movement to help with global warming, and find out more about how diet affects the climate too. This map of the world shows you how each country is contributing to global warming.

7. Support Meat Free Monday

Is a website that asks people to making a difference and help slow climate change by committing to not eating meat one day of the week. Paul McCartney sings the theme song when you first log on and writes a message under supporters. Meat Free Monday website also gives recipes shows celebrity supporters and tips on reducing CO2.

8. Ecorazzi

If you like your celebrity news and a more light hearted read on the going green then this is your website. It will keep you up to date on what the celebrities are doing about the environment. There are titles like Film & TV, Music, Fashion, Cars & Houses, Animals, Events, Contests, and Videos.

9. World Changing

Gives you all kinds of green news organized in topics like stuff, shelter, cities, community, business, politics, and planet. You will get dose of interesting news like, “Maldives President Holds Underwater Cabinet Meeting.”

10. Freecycle.com

Gives you a chance to get free stuff and to get rid of things that you don’t need. Freecycle has many different places you can go for anything you could possibly need.

11. Natural Resources Defense Council

National Environmental Group that has many articles, show seafood mercury reports, and so much information you will spend lots of time learning and getting information you really wanted.

12. Beyond Pesticides

Beyond pesticides strives to have a world free of toxic pesticides. They talk about many different issues. You can check on press releases, fact sheets, daily news and more. They even have a kids contest from Earthbound asking for kids to complete a quote to win savings bonds.

It doesn’t matter which Green websites you choose to visit because by visiting any of them you are supporting the green effort, learning new ways to make a difference and showing the world that being green is important to you.
