If you’ve ever wanted to reach inner peace or freedom, The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself helps. Writer Michael A. Singer strives to provide readers with a method toward a better understanding of their inner self as well as relationship with their surroundings.
He writes that, “To attain true inner freedom, you must be able to objectively watch your problems instead of being lost in them. No solution can possibly exist while you’re lost in the energy of a problem.” Start the journey at the beginning by looking within yourself. No one knows you like you know yourself.
Readers can relate to his points as well as his writing style allowing a simple approach to help them reach their goal. Singer explains you and your thoughts are always together and are difficult to shut off sometimes. He points out, “There are two distinct aspects of your inner being. The first is you, the awareness, the witness, the center of your willful intentions; and the other is that which you watch. The problem is the part that you watch never shuts up. If you could get rid of that part, even for a moment, the peace and serenity would be the nicest vacation you’ve ever had.”
Singer recommends befriending your inner roommate, “You have a wellspring of beautiful energy inside you. When you are open you feel it; when you are closed you don’t. This flow of energy comes from the depth of your being.” A point Singer brings to the reader is, “Meditation strengthens your center of consciousness so that you’re always aware enough to not allow your heart to close. You remain open by simply letting go and releasing the tendency to close. You just relax your heart when it starts to tighten. You don’t have to be outwardly glowing all the time; you’re just joyful inside. Instead of complaining, you’re just having fun with the different situations that unfold.” This book helps the reader learn to live life without stress and other problems. A skill many may be seeking these days.
Singer helps the reader realize they will feel the change when they have accomplished the skill. Then they can take time to perfect it in a way, or ways, that work best for them. This book conveys a strong understanding of what might help with meditation or the practice of Yoga. His book would be a good tool for these practices for anyone considering them to perhaps reduce stress or someone who has been practicing these elements for decades. Singer writes to help those interested to release their thoughts and start an important inner mission.
Co-published in 2007 by New Harbinger Publications and Noetic Books, this 196-page book sells for $16.95. Go to www.untetheredsoul.com to learn more or to purchase this book. Singer founded the Temple of the Universe in 1975, which is a yoga and meditation center. He has also written The Search for Truth and Three Essays on Universal Law: Karma, Will and Love.
