Greening Your Family

From an environmentalist standpoint, “Go Green” to protect our wonderful earth. From a mother’s standpoint, “Go Green” to protect our wonderful children. A toxic environment can only hurt our children, and children are our future. A green body is a clean body.  Here are a few suggestions to Green your Family.

A Stressful Green Diva Mom

By Eleni Prokopeas on Jun.20, 2008, under About Mom, Family, GDM Kids, Tweens, Teens

Recently, I found I had more stress in my life than normal. Having the kids out of school, meant more time together, adding summer activities meant more running around and having them at home also meant more home cooked meals. As the weeks went on the pressure of keeping up increased and I seemed to have lost the order and control I normally keep in running a house with three children. I had very little time left to work on my own business and no time at all to fit in a workout, spend time with my husband and be fun. So after 4 weeks of running this marathon, I snapped and needed a break.

Have you felt this way?

I had my husband take over for a day and I left the house to clear my head and gather my thoughts. Being away was exactly what I needed to gain control and be a GreenDivaMom again. So, sitting by the pool, with a laptop in my hands I put a plan of action in hand to get back on track.

Here are a few suggestions that worked for me:

  • Create a schedule for everyone in the family and stick to it! (schedule a break for mom everyday).
  • All family members have chores and responsibilities. (free time for mom should not be folding clothes).
  • Create a weekly meal schedule and shop according to it. (have simple breakfast and lunch meals).
  • Children should be in bed by 8:30pm, even in the summer. Spend time with husband without kids).
  • Breath, enjoy and have fun with the family this summer.

Life is good! Putting this in action was easy, I feel in control again and I am having a great summer! I still have time to do everything and now I enjoy being a GreenDivaMom and would not have it any other way. Being a GreenDivaMom means the family comes first and not sacrificing for less than the best choices for your family. I hope these suggestions have been helpful and you continue to strive to be the best GreenDivaMom for your family.

We would love to hear your thoughts and input. Please share with other GreenDivaMoms.

Have a wonderful summer!
